What this tool does
Validates JSON syntax and reformats it with indentation. If the syntax is wrong, it tells you where.
How to use it
- Paste your JSON into the input box.
- Run it to get formatted JSON or an error message.
- Copy the formatted result.
Worked example
Input {"a":1} comes back with line breaks and indentation. A missing brace or trailing comma is reported as an error.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does JSON with comments fail?
- Standard JSON has no comments, so // or /* */ is a syntax error. JSON5 and JSONC used for config files are separate formats.
- Does it reorder keys?
- No, input order is preserved. If you need sorting, sort the keys yourself or use a different tool.
What this tool does not cover
Input is processed in your browser. It checks syntax only — not schema conformance or whether the values make sense.
