What this tool does

Computes the volume and weight of asphalt mix from paving area and thickness: volume times density, plus a waste allowance.

How to use it

  1. Enter length and width in metres.
  2. Enter the paving thickness in metres.
  3. Enter the mix density from your supplier’s data.
  4. Enter the waste allowance and run it.

Worked example

10 m × 5 m × 0.1 m gives 5 m³; at 1,600 kg/m³ with 10% waste that is 8,800 kg.

Calculation method

Base volumelength*width*depth
Order masslength*width*depth*density*(1+waste/100)

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1,600 default correct?
It is illustrative. Compacted asphalt mix is usually denser and varies by mix design. Use the unit weight your supplier provides for the order to be right.
Thickness differs before and after compaction.
Correct — the target is the compacted thickness, so you must lay it thicker. Raise the waste allowance to account for the compaction factor.

What this tool does not cover

Rectangular paving only. Compaction factors, drainage slopes, base condition, and joint treatment are not reflected. The default density is not a material specification.
