What this tool does
Computes the weight of a rectangular aluminium plate from its dimensions and density. Length and width are in metres; thickness is in millimetres.
How to use it
- Enter length and width in metres.
- Enter thickness in millimetres.
- Enter the alloy density in kg/m³.
- Run it for the weight in kilograms.
Worked example
2 m × 1 m × 10 mm at 2,700 kg/m³ gives 2 × 1 × 0.01 × 2,700 = 54 kg.
Calculation method
Plate mass
length*width*thickness/1000*densityFrequently asked questions
- Can I keep the 2,700 default?
- It is an illustrative value near pure aluminium. Alloys range roughly from 2,640 to 2,840, so use your product data sheet for accuracy.
- Does it handle pipe or angle?
- No, rectangular plate only. For hollow sections, compute the cross-sectional area first and multiply by length.
What this tool does not cover
Rectangular plate only, with an illustrative default density. Surface treatment, machined holes, and tolerances are not reflected.
