Strings that look like numbers in Excel

Postal codes, order IDs and phone numbers can look numeric without being quantities. Interpreting 00123 as a number removes its leading zeros, while long identifiers can lose precision.

Murphkitsch preserves CSV values as string cells in Excel. An input such as =1+1 is stored as text rather than an executable formula. Convert only the columns you intend to calculate with into numbers after downloading.

Quote CSV cells that contain commas. If rows have inconsistent column counts, tidy the source first. Check the first and last rows and any Korean characters in the resulting workbook.
